My trip to San Jose!

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

April 30th,

Last Saturday, my mom, Sofia, and me left the house at 4:30am to catch the 6 am ferry. My parents were not 100% satisfied with the healing of the rash on my neck so mom made an appt with the dermatologist. He was leaving on vacation the following week so saw us on Saturday.  Mom took me out of bed with my jammies on and off we went to catch the ferry. The ride in went very smooth. Sofia was in the back with me and gave me my breakfast and meds on the road! My dad had to stay behind as our nursery has been busy!

The dermatologist looked at my neck and of course by Saturday it was looking really good. We got some advice and left for the hotel. Sofia’s mom and two sisters came to the hotel to meet me. They were very sweet to me. Sofia went to Cartago to see her family and Johnny her boyfriend. Mom and I stayed at the hotel and hung out. On Sunday we went to Linda’s my PT from San Jose house and had a nice brunch with her. Later that afternoon we went for a stroll and hung out on her living room floor and Linda played with me a bit! She was quite impressed on how strong I felt to her!

Our mission on this trip was to have Sofia meet all my San Jose therapists. I also had to get a the vaccine DTaP. Boo! I don’t like shots or how they make me feel later. On Monday we went to see Dra.Castro and she gave me the shot. I only cried a little bit but after the shot I was wiped out and pretty much slept all day and that night. The following morning I had fever and my mom had just ran out of Tylenol so off to the pharmacy at 6am she went to try and bring down my fever. Sofia stayed with me and was fanning me and putting a cold cloth on my head. The Tylenol helped and brought my fever down pretty fast. At 7:30am we had to head back to CIMA to draw blood as I had a bunch of different lab tests ran on me to see how I was doing. There is only one lady that knows how to draw my blood and do it right on the first try, so mom had her meet us at the hospital and we went into ER to use a room so she could draw my blood. She hit the vein right away and two big vials of blood had to come out for the tests! I was a champ though and did not really cry just was irritated that mom was holding my arm down!

My tests results came back great and after drawing the blood we went back to the hotel to get ready for my 10:30 PT appt.  At 3:30pm I had an appointment with my GI. I usually had two to three appointments a day, try fitting in my 2.5 hour lunch and breakfast the day goes by fast and there is alot of running around in the city to do!  Our car started to act up and mom had to call our mechanic to come and fix it.Thank goodness it was nothing big and he had it back to us by the next day!  Whew, let me tell you it is very stressful when we go to the city I am tired just writing all of this!  All the rest of my appointments went well. I was not that content in therapy it had been almost six months since any of my therapists had worked with me and I have become so used to Sofia’s hands that I was not so happy with everyone else trying to make me work out for them!

On Thursday it was time to come home and we were all ready! We left the hotel at 7am and pulled into our driveway at noon! I was so happy to see my dad I gave him a big smile when he came to the car to greet us! I was so relaxed once I got back home and slept very well that night! Hopefully we dont have to go back to San Jose for a while!

Catch up!

It has been a very long time since my last post! I have been so busy catching up on feeling good, working out, and resting I have not been able to write so much! So, much has happened since my last post. Lets see where should I start?

I am progressing daily with Sofia. The other day she had me putting weight into my hands.  She was so happy and proud of me and of course my parents were thrilled! Sofia is a great PT I really like working out with her she has a very special way in handling me and always seems to get me to do things that she wants me to do! I am getting stronger again. I am lifting my legs and holding things in my hands. I am almost back to where I was before I got sick.

April was a very hot month! Do you remember last year when I got that horrible bug burn that was as bad as second degree burn? Well it happened again! Less than a year and I have this red spot on my neck again. My parents said no way that this could be the peeing bug again in the same exact spot. We sent pictures off to a pediatric dermatologist who said I had Intertrigo. It is common in kids and basically a heat rash gone out of control. He told my mom to put some special cream on it and within hours it started to disappear. It took almost a month for it to completely go away. The doc said the heat and humidity out here does not help the intertrigo and since I dont move my neck alot I can easily get the intertrigo. So he recommended a preventive ointment that I have to put on twice a day and it seems to be helping keeping things under control. Unfortunately I was not able to swim this whole time which was a bummer for me!  Yesterday me, mom, dad, and Sofia went swimming and I had so much fun! It was great to be back in the water.

Life is good right now.
